Local Listing: motorino

Ever since motorino moved into the neighborhood I have been eagerly looking forward to giving their neapolitan pizza a try. Tonight I went there for dinner and I now understand why lines gather outside; it was tasty! The perfectly charred and puffy pizza crust was perhaps the best I have ever had. I usually leave the crusts behind but this was just too good… The flavorful sauce, fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese, and crispy basil leaves gives this joint a place on my list of favorite east village restaurants.

Local Listings: Elsa

Elsa is the perfect neighborhood bar to escape the cold. The simple white walled candle lit parlor is cozy and elegant. Menus are stowed inside mismatched hardcover books, picnic-table-esque booths can be found in the back, perfect for a small group of friends. This motif is emphasized with vintage light fixtures, an old sewing machine turned bar tap, and my personal favorite – exposed Edison bulbs lining the ceiling.
A well rounded wine and beer list is joined by classic cocktails and Elsa’s own signature drinks, such as “The Elsa” (Apple Jack, Orange Bitter, Brown Sugar, Champagne), a particularly festive beverage. Elsa does offer a limited selection of tasty bites – olives and pickles, bread, cheese, and meat plates, and scoops from New York City favorite, Labratorio del Gelato.

Halloween this year was a blast!
We started the afternoon with a delicious brunch at Essex’s…

Since we couldn’t find any large pumpkins to carve last minute, Jason
(mr. bacon) carved a watermelon. Actually turned out quite good! I carved some little ones…

Then we baked pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheese cake and watched some
scary movies. Perfection!
